ALDERWOOD HOUSE, a reggio inspired
school for children age 18 months to 5 years, is
inviting the community to it’s Treehouse Grand
Opening party on May 23.
This event is the culmination of an 8 month project:
the 3 and 4 year olds at Alderwood House have
independently designed, built, and painted their
Rainbow Castle Treehouse. Working almost daily,
with only the winter and spring school breaks,
children have dilled screws, carried wood, dictated
how wood should be cut, drawn and re-drawn plans,
developed an understanding of paint mixing (painted
their hair green). . .and even braved home depot to
locate paint. This is an incredible example of child
perseverance and passion - something Alderwood
House children nurture as they explore the world
through project work - projects like the treehouse
project.
Inspired by Fantasy Gardens and the Capilano
Suspension Bridge, the design includes a drawbridge,
natural sticks and roots as both structural and aesthetic
features, a very good hiding place for small tiny people,
and the structures highlight: rainbow walls.
Recently, a gnome has moved into the tree, likely
because he loves the Castle Treehouse so very much."The gnome is our friend, he has the gold. He will come
to the Grand Party, I think." said MiGun, 5, one of the
treehouse designers.
On May 23, from 9:30 - 12:00, please join us for our
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting. Snacks will be
served, activities appropriate for children 1 – 5 will be
available.
