ART FROM THE HEART
Once again we will partner with the Richmond Society for Community Living – Avenues art workshop and present an exhibition of 2 and 3D work created by their clients.

Last years event was so well attended over the 2-week period that we have decided that this year we will hold it for one month, the dates for this year’s exhibition are

MAY 26 – JUNE 27TH 2010
At the
ARTISANS’ GALLERIA

We expect to have at least 50 different works of art in this exciting exhibition, and encourage everyone to make a point of stopping by to view it. This work will also be available for sale with the proceeds going directly to the artists.

The difficulties that these artists face on a daily basis make this work a joy to see! In addition, this is the only exhibition where they can both show and sell their work in a main stream gallery setting. This leads to an increase in self worth, hope and abilities, in turn encouraging them to continue to develop their artistic skills.

Some of the paintings take a year to complete, while other participants may exhibit more than one piece. This year they will also present some of their crafts
which were also created in the Avenue workshop, thereby expanding their work and exposure and giving the public more to view and purchase.

The official opening reception will take place on Sunday May 30th between 1 – 4, where there will be an opportunity to speak with the artists in attendance and have refreshments.

Last year we were fortunate to have Mayor Malcolm Brodie, MLA’S John Yap and Linda Reid and city of Richmond councilor Bill Nulty attend the opening, which for many of the participants was a big highlight and helped to create a sense of inclusion.

We urge everyone to take the time to view and support this unique, free exhibition which will be held daily from May 26 – June 27 from 10 – 5 at the
Artisans’ Galleria 3651 Moncton St. in the heart of Steveston Village, Richmond.

Gentle Steps Child Care has been open for a year now and owner Sonia Dhudwal knows how much time and effort goes into running a child care that each family can come to stress free. She believes having flexibility, patience, a passion for this field and an open mind are essential in running your own daycare.

Sonia obtained her ECE Diploma through Langara College in 2006 and worked in various day care centers before choosing to open her own. With over 7 years of experience in the field Sonia was confident her knowledge and experience would be beneficial to a community needing quality child care, especially for children under 36 months of age. In January 2010 Sonia joined the Child Care and Development Advisory Committee (CCDAC) for the City of Richmond.

Gentle Steps Child Care is conveniently located at 5251 Steveston Hwy in South West Richmond between No.2 road and Railway Avenue. Run as a Multi-Age Group Daycare and licensed through Vancouver Coastal Health, Sonia can have up to 8 children a day between the ages of 0 months – 12 years of age. This type of daycare helps parents who can allow their child to transition from a young age on to their preschool years without going through too many changes. It is also beneficial for parents seeking child care for siblings. Sonia has her ECE License to Practice, First Aid, Food Safe and goes to frequent workshops to keep herself up to date with the child care field.

Gentle Steps Child Care has a fully enclosed play yard with age appropriate toys. Some examples of a typical day would include; free play, snack, lunch, group time, outdoor time, nap, educational activities and more.
