GULF OF GEORGIA CANNERY PREPARES FOR LARGEST TEMPORARY EXHIBIT TO DATE

2004 will see the largest temporary exhibit yet at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site. "MAYDAY - Catching Fish, Saving Lives" will present a thrilling series of dramatic real-life Search and Rescue stories from the West Coast Fishery. Each tale will be brought alive through storyboards, sound-effects and exhibits containing the tools of survival in an unforgiving marine environment.

As they experience the exhibit, visitors will learn why Fishing is called the "most dangerous job in the world" and will be left with a new appreciation of those who brave the elements to bring in the catch, and those who assist them when they run into trouble. The exhibit will run from April 3 to October 31, 2004, and will then visit other maritime-related museums. MAYDAY is made possible with the generous assistance of the Workers' Compensation Board of B.C., The Pacific Coast Fishermen's Mutual Marine Insurance Company, The G & F Financial Group, Coast Capital Savings, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, DBC, Mustang Survival, the Canadian Coast Guard and Parks Canada.
