CELEBRATING 100 YEARS
The building the Steveston Museum is in is 100 years old this year! Built in prefabricated panels by the BC Mills Timber and Trading Co. of New Westminster, it was shipped down the Fraser River and put on its current site at 3811 Moncton St. in 1905 as the area's first bank. Through corporate mergers, the Northern Bank eventually became the Royal Bank which moved from the building to its present site across the street in 1963. For a short time it housed Dr. Campbell's medical practice. After extensive restoration, it opened in 1979 as the Steveston Museum and post office. The Historical Society is celebrating this landmark with a BBQ in the park next to the museum on Saturday, August 13, 2005 between noon and 3pm. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.
