Tall Ship coin from Royal Canadian Mint by our own John Horton

Hot off the press - a new coin from the Royal Canadian Mint has one of John Horton's images on it. It was just recently released and is one of a series of tall ship coins produced by them. The coin is limited to a production of 16,000 and not a circulation coin, but a collector’s coin. It is packaged in an attractive maroon display holder. Purchase one for your collection or for Dad - (Father's day on June 18th!)

Go to the web site listed below and you will be able to see the coin. The sky is a hologram and for those of you who have not seen a hologram coin this is a very stunning coin. And quite large too.

You can order the coin directly from the Canadian Mint, or, better still, support the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society which operates the National Historic Site by purchasing the coin from their gift shop - which is open 7 days a week.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS!
THE CANADIAN COAST GUARD AUXILIARY IN STEVESTON:

Do you enjoy adventure?
Do you have boating experience or are willing to learn?
Are you looking for community involvement in Steveston?
PO Box 107 #9 – 8671 No. 1 Road
Richmond, BC V7C 1V2

Steveston’s Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit 7 is gearing up for another busy summer boating season. And, thanks to local supporters, this Coast Guard Auxiliary unit is now better prepared than ever to handle any marine emergencies that come their way.

All Coast Guard Auxiliary units are staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers and provide marine search and rescue services in support of the Canadian Coast Guard. A non-profit organization, the Coast Guard Auxiliary relies heavily on public and corporate donations to provide its crews with the equipment they need to help save lives at sea. Money raised goes directly into search and rescue operations and pays for necessities such as rescue equipment, protective clothing for crews, and fuel and maintenance of their vessel, Auxiliary 7.

Several local businesses have made donations to support Auxiliary 7 and this has given the unit a much-needed boost. Their contributions will go a long way in helping to outfit the crews with the tools they need to perform safely and efficiently. Rescue gear and crew survival suits are some of the more sorely needed items that these donations will help to purchase.

Steveston’s Auxiliary 7 also wishes to remind residents of the community that although the summer months are particularly busy, the Coast Guard Auxiliary is on call 365 days a year and responds to marine emergencies in all kinds of weather and sea conditions. Public donations are always welcome and are necessary to ensure that this valuable service is available when needed.

Those wishing to donate to Auxiliary Unit 7 should visit the Richmond Marine Rescue Society website at www.richmondmarinerescue.ca for information on how and where to donate. Remember, too, that donations are tax deductible and tax receipts will be issued on request.

The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit 7 in Steveston wishes to thank the following local businesses for their kind support:

Steveston Harbour Authority Scotch Pond Heritage Cooperative
The City of Richmond The Steveston Hotel
Nikka Fishing and Marine Steveston Marine and Hardware
Tapenade Bistro Army, Navy, Air Force Veterans – Unit 284
Rotary Club of Steveston The Buck & Ear Bar and Grill
