GULF OF GEORGIA CANNERY NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

Join us May 6 at 7:30 pm for a staged reading of "The Gull", an original Canadian Noh play which explores the experience of Japanese immigrants in Steveston. Classical Japanese Noh is one of the oldest continually performed theatre forms in the world. The workshop will include an introductory demonstration. Complimentary admisssion! Well known local artist and historian Michael Kluckner presenting his new book “Vanishing British Columbia” in the GOG Cannery Boiler House Theatre SATURDAY, MAY 14TH from 2 to 4 pm.     BRITANNIA HERITAGE SHIPYARD

    Folk Night The Steveston Folk group offers a mixture of Celtic, Folk and Blues tunes every third Thursday of each month from 8:00-10:00pm in the Murakami boatworks building.

    Debbie & Jack
    Debbie Ryan & Jack Stevenson are an acoustic folk duo from on Vancouver Island known for their appealing harmonies. They pride themselves on their unique selection of interesting, contemporary folk songs provided by performers met at the numerous festivals they attend. Debbie & Jack consider their performances a "show" and like to interact with their audience. They like to include humour and unusual renditions of traditional folk songs. They have opened for Shari Ulrich and Todd Butler of CBC's " Madly Off In All Directions". They are regular performers at folk clubs in Nanaimo, Victoria, Campbell River and the Gulf Islands.

    June 16th
    Port na Gael
    Port na Gael means "tune of the Gael", which evokes the sound created by this talented group of musicians. Their defining characteristics are soul-stirring harmonies and lively tunes played on fiddle, uillean pipes, Irish flute, bouzouki, cittern, guitar and, when musically necessary, the bodhran. Port na Gael has played at a variety of folk festivals and venues on either side of the border, most recently at the Seattle Folklife Festival, and Cityfest in Vancouver. This is the band's first appearance at SFG.

    Silver Ann Restoration
    Britannia volunteers will be involved in a project to restore the Silver Ann. This 33-foot gill-netter was the last boat constructed on the site in 1969. Volunteers will be needed for all phases of the restoration and operation of the boat. Please call 604-718-8050 to participate in this exciting project. Training will be provided
    Skimboard Workshops - Design, build and paint your own skimboard. This simple woodworking project will give you hours of fun playing on the beach and in the waves.
    Richmond Maritime Festival Second annual Richmond Maritime Festival featuring heritage boats, maritime displays, demonstrations, activities both on and off the water. Co-sponsored by the Britannia Heritage
    Shipyard Advisory Board and the Steveston Rotary Club. August 19-21.

    STEVESTON MUSEUM AND POST OFFICE

    The Steveston Museum Society would like to remind all Businesses and residents about the services they offer. Don’t forget when you are doing your holiday mailing that you buy your stamps and send your parcels through the Steveston Post Office. The Post Office is run by the Society and all proceeds are used to operate the Museum. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSEUM.

    LONDON HERITAGE FARM

    I think whoever sent you the info about the LFH 'Artists' Tea might have neglected to mention that there is also an art show (weather permitting.) If you still have time, could you perhaps add that detail please? A hopeful thanks!

    We have an exciting tea coming up in May.

    On Saturday, May 14th we will be hosting an Anne of Green Gables tea at London Farm in conjunction with the EJS School of Fine Arts. The tea is a fund-raiser and will be a preview of the musical play which will be presented at the Genesis Theatre in Ladner in June. In addition to the London Farm tea goodies, there will be strawberry tarts, served by the Anne of Green Gables cast and volunteers, in costume. Musical selections from the play will also be performed. .

    Tea tickets will be on sale at London Farm for $11.00 per person or may be purchased by calling (604) 543-1377 or 604-271-5220.

    RICHMOND BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION

    Meeting the second Tuesday of every month, except July and August, at 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the Kinsman Pavilion at the Richmond Nature Park, No. 5 Road and Westminster Highway.     THE ROTARY CLUB OF STEVESTON

    The Rotary Club of Steveston, the Steveston Harbour Authority, the City of Richmond and the Richmond RCMP are pleased to announce the 3rd annual “Jimmy Ng Memorial Road Hockey Tournament”. The event will run Saturday and Sunday May 28th and 29th. Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward the Richmond RCMP’s D.A.R.E. program in the local schools.     ARTISTS AMONG US

    The artists of Richmond along with the Richmond art gallery put on "artists among us" a 3 week show at the RAG from June 9th-24th, closing party at the gallery-meet the artists- Friday June 24th, 6:30-8:30. followed by open studio tours of the artists participating on June 25th & 26th -sat&sun 12-4pm. come out and support your local artists and see new and exciting work!

    I am Jeanette Jarville an artist participating in this event, my studio is located in the back yard of Richmond’s -"The Doorknocker Bed and Breakfast" 13211 Steveston Hwy, just east of hwy 99. I will be showing my work along with 2 other artists here on that weekend.
    CALLING ALL ART LOVERS!

    Coming in June is Richmond Artists Among Us, an event that is becoming a tradition in Richmond. To kick off the event, some artists will be involved in a painting demo on the plaza outside the Richmond Art Gallery on June 4th. Weather permitting, look for Richmond artists such as Sue Kavanagh to have brushes and paints out that afternoon.

    The Gallery part of the show where all participating artists will display a few pieces of their work runs from June 9th to the 24th inclusive. On the 24th, you are invited to come and chat with artists in attendance, at an evening reception at the Gallery on Friday, June 24th from 5:30 to 8:30.

    After the Gallery part of the show closes, artists will open their studios from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm, Saturday and Sunday, June 25th and 26th. This year there are more artists displaying in public venues such as at the Courtyard Galleria in Steveston Village, the Steveston Village Gallery and the Britannia Heritage Shipyard Building. Get your Artists Among Us Map and look for artists like Adrienne Moore, Cheryl Roller, Bill Watt and Michael Lorne. Whether you just come to look, or whether you seek an original creation to enhance your wall or life, be sure to take in this great community event!
