STEVESTON MUSEUM AND POST OFFICE

The Steveston Museum Society would like to remind all businesses and residents about the services they offer. Don't forget when you are doing your any mailing that you buy your stamps and send your parcels through the Steveston Post Office. The Post Office is run by the Society and all proceeds are used to operate the Museum. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSEUM.

Gulf of Georgia Cannery

There's so much to discover!
Situated atop wooden pilings over the mighty Fraser River, the Cannery is one of the few remaining 19th century salmon canneries in B.C. In its heyday, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery was the largest building of its kind and the leading producer of canned salmon in B.C. Now a dynamic fishing museum, step inside and become immersed in the sights, sounds and stories of the West Coast fishing industry.

Special Events 2004

Seasonal Opening Saturday April 3, 1pm to 5pm
MAYDAY: The Risky Business of Fishing. Grand opening of this exciting exhibit featuring five Search and Rescue stories. Exhibit runs from April 3 to October 29.

GO WILD Art Challenge Available from May on our website
Go Wild goes virtual! This annual art project is now open to all grade 4-7 students in BC. View online original children's art based on salmon fishing, preservation and habitat.

Canada Day July 1:
Celebrate Canada's National Day at the Cannery. Complimentary admission.

Parks Day: Strolling Through Steveston's History Saturday July 17, 1pm to 3pm.
A team of tour guides will interpret episodes of Steveston's colourful past while taking you to its heritages sites and museums.

Cannery Night: Summer Salmon Stomp! Saturday, September 11, 7:30pm to 11:00pm. The Cannery hosts a concert featuring "The Tiller's Folly".

Kid's Cannery Day Monday August 23, 1 - 4pm
Complimentary afternoon admission for Kids World members.

Fishing the West Coast Photo Project Monday Sept 4 - Sunday Oct 17:
Annual photo exhibit opening and family activities on Labour Day (Sept.4). Fishing the West Coast photo display runs through October 17 and features images from and about people in the fishing industry.


BC Rivers Day The Future of the White Sturgeon. Sunday, September 26, 1pm.

Halloween at the Cannery Saturday October 30 and Sunday Oct 31, 11 - 4:30pm. Experience spooky vignettes by Cannery ghosts and our Cemetery of Departed Canneries.

Christmas at the Cannery December weekends.
A display of Christmas trees decorated by Richmond Secondary Schools students, and Gift Shop openings. Visitors vote for their favourite tree.

ROTARY CLUB OF STEVESTON

Coming events:
1. Seafood and Wine Festival - Evening of April 30th, held at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. The Rotary Club of Steveston and features wine sampling from approximately 30 BC wineries holds the event. In addition to the wine we will have a selection of seafood and cheese to nibble on. Proceeds from the event will help support local charities, scholarships and causes. Tickets are $35 per person and more information is available at www.stevestonrotary.org

2. Jimmy Ng Memorial Hockey Tournament and Safety Awareness Day. Held at the Steveston Community Lacrosse Box (behind the Community Centre) This will be a two day event held on May 29th and 30th. Several teams composing of the RCMP, Coast Guard Aux., Firefighters, City of Richmond and local business will compete in a road hockey tournament. Proceeds from the event will go towards a Charity chosen by Jimmy Ng's parents. Last year, funds were given to create a legacy scholarship at a local High School. The RCMP, the Steveston Harbour Authority and Rotary Club of Steveston sponsor the event.

STEVESTON CHRISTIAN CHURCH

LONDON HERITAGE FARM

Admission by donation. Our Tea Room is open every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. for tea. Theme teas for March will be the St. Patrick's Day Tea on March 13 & 14 and our Spring Tea on March 20 & 21.

We will be holding our annual Plant Sale May 1 & 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will be selling hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, tomato plants, and herbs.

THE RICHMOND HOSPITAL AUXILIARY THRIFT SHOP

Located at 3920 Monkton St. in the heart of Steveston. We have been in Steveston over 27 years and have raised over $2.3 million dollars for the Richmond Hospital. This money is spent on new equipment for the hospital and to pay for the continuing support of the recreational needs of the residents of the Minoru Residence and Lions Manor.

We have started working on our annual Curio Sale which will be held November 5th and 6th. There is lovely china, crystal, silverware, jewellery, linens, etc. being priced and packaged for our big event. It is the generous support of our loyal customers who make this possible.

STEVESTON LIONS CLUB WEEKLY CAR SALE

Every Sunday starting April 4, 2004
Sellers: Bring your used car to the lot at 7100 Elmbridge Way (next to ICBC) to display for sale. A $10.00 donation is payable to Steveston Lions Club

THE SOGETSU IKEBANA BRANCH

Is going to have a Master teacher visit Steveston on June 27. He will be conducting workshops at the Steveston Buddhist Temple. He will be doing a demonstration in Vancouver on the
26th at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

We will also be having a 'Flowork' in Steveston to coordinate with this celebration of the Master's visit. This is a series of flower works in various establishments around Steveston, i.e. Gulf of Georgia Cannery.
