1st Annual - STEVESTON FARMERS AND ARTISANS MARKET

Over fifty vendors will come together in the charming waterfront community of Steveston, B.C. for the first annual outdoor Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market. Offering fresh local produce, healthy foods, flowers, plants, and unique works by local artisans, the Market opens weekly on Sundays from 11am- 4pm from May 4 - September 28, 2008. Located in the parking lot of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site*, the Market promises to be a lively and memorable home grown event.

The Richmond Agricultural and Industrial Society which is governed by the Steveston Community Society (SCS) host the Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market. The SCS is also responsible for the 63-year-old Steveston Salmon Festival, Canada’s biggest non-profit Canada Day event, which draw crowds of 75,000. The SCS recognized, and has responded to the strong demand for a Farmers and Artisans Market in Steveston (a community within the city of Richmond, B.C.).

Steveston residents have been seeking healthy and seasonal produce, with the added convenience of being able to shop locally and support Richmond’s farmers. While feeling good about making a smaller carbon footprint, Market goers will also enjoy on site entertainment in a family-friendly setting. It is a great chance to meet with friends and neighbours on a weekly basis.

In addition to Richmond residents, tourists will also enjoy partaking in this event. A visit to the Market can be complemented by a trip down to the fishing docks, dining at one of Steveston’s many fine restaurants, shopping at the local businesses and boutiques, or taking advantage of the boardwalk and other scenic walks, the many heritage sites and parks.

Steveston is going green! Join us for the Market’s grand opening on May 4th.

About the tournament

Groups from all forms of emergency, community service, and business are invited to enter teams in this friendly non-competitive tournament. The Rotary Club of Steveston wishes all participants good luck.

Attendance at this annual tournament is by donation, with proceeds from attendance, player registration, food sales, and prize draws going towards support of local emergency services, and related prevention, and education.

The tournament is held in memory of Constable Jimmy Ng, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on September 15, 2002 while responding to a call when his marked police cruiser was hit by youths who were street racing.

Constable Ng grew up in Richmond, graduated from Matthew McNair High School, and joined the RCMP in 1996. He served his first 5 years in Duncan BC before transferring to Richmond to serve in the community in which he grew up.

Constable Ng was a member of the RCMP Richmond Detachment, C Watch, and an active local volunteer. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit No. 7, based in Steveston. As a volunteer member of this team he had taken part in many search and rescue missions.

With affectionate memory of Constable Jimmy Ng we express gratitude, admiration and respect to all of our Police Officers, Firefighters, Coast Guard Personnel, Ambulance Service, and all other emergency personnel who risk their lives on a daily basis for the betterment and safety of all.
