This is the temple bell of the Steveston Buddhist Temple. A place of worship and culture for the Japanese community since 1928.
It is rung every new years eve with special significance for the Japanese community
on New Year 's eve, temple bells are rang 108 times, corresponding to the Buddhist concept of 108 worldly desires. New Years is a time of great importance and celebration to the Japanese.
