Happy Fathers Day

Welcome to Steveston... the home of the Steveston Salmon Festival.

The 2010 Salmon Festival theme is "Red goes Green"! We are celebrating the three "R"s - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Ride your bike, take transit, and help us reduce our carbon footprint. This year, we've added a secure bike parkade! We've also got some exciting new acts for the main stage this year! Browse around our website and see what's new this year!

Won't you join us and celebrate our National holiday at "Canada's biggest little birthday party"?!

The people of Steveston have come together every year since 1945 to celebrate Canada’s birthday & the rich heritage of our community. Thanks to the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers & the generous support of our sponsors, the Steveston Community Society organizes one of the largest non-profit Canada Day celebrations across the country! Over 75,000 people from across Richmond, Metro Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest spend Canada Day with us!

The day begins at 10am with a parade through historic Steveston village, which features over 100 entries including floats, marching bands, celebrities, politicians, community groups, vintage vehicles & much more. Then, the Festival is officially kicked off at our Opening Ceremonies on the Main Stage at 12:30pm with dignitaries, speeches, & the singing of O Canada.
After the official opening, the stage bursts with great entertainment all afternoon. Festival highlights include attractions such as the Japanese Cultural Show, Craft Fair, Trade Show, an awesome Children’s Festival,Carnival rides & Midway, Martial Arts Demonstrations, Youth Rock Fest, multi-ethnic Food Fair plus an Art Show & Exhibit.

The main attraction is our famous salmon barbecue where over 1200 pounds of wild salmon filets are grilled over open fire pits. This popular treat sells out every year!

Whatever your age… Whatever your interests… There is something for everyone at the Steveston Salmon Festival!
We're on Facebook! Let us know you are coming!

Creating more than just a show, Andrew embraces and revels in the experience. From his fun loving 2009 Top 10 single ‘I Wanna Be Your Christmas’ and his quirky Top 40 single 'Not Loving You', to his soulful ballads like

'Amazing' - which he performed in Whistler BC at the 2010 Closing Ceremonies of the Paralympic Winter Games - Andrew somehow knows just how to conduct a show that has you laughing, dancing and most importantly…remembering.

Some great combinations happen by accident, and that's certainly the case with new Canadian country duo, "Georgia Rain". One part Damian Marshall, one part Shanna Lynn, "Georgia Rain" became reality when two artists pursuing solo careers found that their voices, together, had an unmistakable, immediately recognizable sound - one that, ever since they came together, has had fans clamouring to hear more.

THE COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL OF RICHMOND
AND THE

ARTISANS’ GALERIA

Are very pleased to present the 2nd annual Unique Art Show, now re-titled -- ART FROM THE HEART exhibition.

With this exhibition we are partnering with the Richmond Society for Community Living (RSCL) Avenues workshop clients who will be presenting their artwork at the ARTISANS’ GALLERIA, 3651 Moncton St. in the heart of Steveston village. The show will run until June 27th and this year will feature over 50 paintings as well as some crafts.

All of the artists displaying their work have cognitive and physical disabilities and are supported through day programs offered by (RSCL) and this show has become a very important event their lives and helps to build their self-esteem and confidence. We consider it to be a major break through in allowing the public to see beyond disability to creative ability.

The show is free to attend and the Artisans’ Galleria is open 7 days a week from 10 – 5. In addition, in an attempt to help raise fund to be able to continue offer exhibitions such as this, they are holding a raffle. You could win one of 7 prizes valued at a total of $1350.00. Tickets are $2.00 or 6 for $10.00 and the draw will take place July 5th, so don’t delay, stop in and purchase your tickets today! You can also view the prizes that will be awarded as they are on display at the Galleria.

With government cuts to the arts and a slow economy, the Community Arts Council is in desperate need of donations, sponsorship and grants and is constantly trying to devise new ways to increase cash flow. This raffle is one of the ways. Since they are non-profit all the money will go towards keeping the doors open and allow them to continue to support the arts and artists in our area.
Please support them!

Last year we were fortunate to have Mayor Malcolm Brodie, MLA’S John Yap and Linda Reid and city of Richmond councilor Bill Nulty attend the opening, which for many of the participants was a big highlight and helped to create a sense of inclusion.

We urge everyone to take the time to view and support this unique, free exhibition which will be held daily from May 26 – June 27 from 10 – 5 at the
Artisans’ Galleria 3651 Moncton St. in the heart of Steveston Village, Richmond.

Gentle Steps Child Care has been open for a year now and owner Sonia Dhudwal knows how much time and effort goes into running a child care that each family can come to stress free. She believes having flexibility, patience, a passion for this field and an open mind are essential in running your own daycare.

Sonia obtained her ECE Diploma through Langara College in 2006 and worked in various day care centers before choosing to open her own. With over 7 years of experience in the field Sonia was confident her knowledge and experience would be beneficial to a community needing quality child care, especially for children under 36 months of age. In January 2010 Sonia joined the Child Care and Development Advisory Committee (CCDAC) for the City of Richmond.

Gentle Steps Child Care is conveniently located at 5251 Steveston Hwy in South West Richmond between No.2 road and Railway Avenue. Run as a Multi-Age Group Daycare and licensed through Vancouver Coastal Health, Sonia can have up to 8 children a day between the ages of 0 months – 12 years of age. This type of daycare helps parents who can allow their child to transition from a young age on to their preschool years without going through too many changes. It is also beneficial for parents seeking child care for siblings. Sonia has her ECE License to Practice, First Aid, Food Safe and goes to frequent workshops to keep herself up to date with the child care field.

Gentle Steps Child Care has a fully enclosed play yard with age appropriate toys. Some examples of a typical day would include; free play, snack, lunch, group time, outdoor time, nap, educational activities and more.
