GULF OF GEORGIA CANNERY NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE - Reopening May 2006

Hello from Tiller's Folly! We’re writing to let you know that our live DVD, A Fine Kettle of Fish which was filmed inside the historic Gulf of Georgia Cannery is Steveston, will be airing across Canada on the Knowledge Network.

ALMOST GONE: Remains of Cannery Villages Sat., May 06th 1pm
Artist Florence Debeugny launches her new provoking multi-media presentation of canneries along the coast of BC. Through interviews, music, poetry, sounds, amazing photographs and archival shots, Florence examines canneries and their disappearance from the historical landscape of BC. This project was assisted by the Spirit of BC Arts Fund and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society. Available in the Cannery Boiler House Theatre until October 09th.

CANFISCO: From Sea to Shelf Sat., June 24 , 1pm
Canfisco, Canadian fishing Company is 100 years old! This exhibit examines the marketing psychology behind selling fish – why have label designs changed, what can we learn about history from the marketing methods used and what did Walt Disney have to do with selling fish? Find the answers to all these questions and more. Exhibit runs until October 9th.

Island City By Bike ( 10+ years) Join a guided bike tour and discover some of Richmond's cycling routes (choice of short and long rides). Folk Night The Steveston Folk group offers a mixture of Celtic, Folk and Blues tunes every third Thursday of each month from 8:00-10:00pm in the Murakami Boatworks building.

STEVESTON MUSEUM AND POST OFFICE

The Steveston Museum Society would like to remind all Businesses and residents about the services they offer. Don’t forget when you are doing your all you’re mailing that you buy your stamps and send your parcels through the Steveston Post Office that the Post Office is run by the Society and all proceeds are used to operate the Museum. LONDON HERITAGE FARM

London Heritage Farm is having a Vintage Clothing and Accessories Exhibit from February 4 to March 26th. Open to the public on Saturdays and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. and to groups during the week by reservation. Reservations may be made by phoning 604-271-5220 or emailing londonhf@telus.net

Beginning on February 4, 2006 guests are invited to tour the historic London Farm house and see the display of vintage clothing and accessories set up throughout the house. Enjoy a relaxing tea in the old-fashioned tea room*. Admission is by donation. Tea and goodies - $6.00 per person.

The London Heritage Farm is a 4.6-acre site overlooking the south arm of the Fraser River, offering a park-like setting with lovely flower gardens, the restored Spragg family barn, old farm equipment, chickens, and comforts such as picnic tables and public washrooms. The 1880's London farm house has been fully restored and furnished to illustrate rural life in Richmond. Six rooms display furniture, accessories, pictures, photographs, clothing, and quilts. The London Heritage Farm is owned by the City of Richmond and operated by the London Heritage Farm Society.

This FREE & Drop-In style meeting takes place every Third Wednesday of each month (except July & August - this month is exception to have it on Tuesday) and we have a different topic for each meeting. Pacific Immigrant Resources Society, will hold the LEAD program at the Richmond Caring Place, from March 28 until June 20, 2006. LEAD means Leadership, Education and Development. The goal of LEAD is to assist immigrant women to gain confidence in their ability to participate in an English-speaking Canadian context and to become involved in the community in a way which is meaningful and relevant to them and is a group program of 24 sessions offered two times a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 12:30 – 2:30 P.M. The program includes but not limited to topics such as: Issues Immigrant Women face, Exploring Roles, Skills, Strengths’ Communication Skills and Goals, Exploring Voluntarism, Community Resources and Services, Communication Skills.

Before program starts, we will have an orientation session to explain more about this program. It will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, from 12:30pm till 2:30pm at the Richmond Caring Place Room 345. Those who are interested to take this program are required to take this orientation session. To register for orientation, please contact Yoshimi at 604-279-7160.
