Britannia Heritage Shipyard
The Britannia Heritage Shipyard is a rare surviving example of a once thriving mixture of canneries, boatyards and residences. Many of these are the last examples of their kind on the entire coast.
There are twelve remaining buildings on the site, some dating back to 1885. Four of these are now restored and are open to the public, with our latest restoration underway - the Historic Zone, which will interpret four stilt houses and a Chinese bunkhouse. While touring, you will see volunteers restoring old wooden working vessels using traditional skills. You will learn the importance of these boats in BC's history and will discover stories of the people that lived and worked at Britannia.
The Murakami Visitor Centre, interprets the life of the Murakami's, a Japanese Canadian family. This award-winning facility also houses public
washrooms, and a gift shop to open in 2009.
Self-guiding tours, brochures, interpretive signage and seasonal exhibits always available. The park is wheelchair accessible.
